The project
Buccleuch Group has submitted the Section 36 application for a battery storage scheme at Glenmuckloch in Dumfries and Galloway.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are technological solutions that reserve electrical power in batteries for future consumption. They are instrumental in regulating the fluctuations and unpredictability associated with renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power. When these sources generate more energy than needed, such as during sunny or windy conditions, the surplus power is stored by the BESS.
The new project, known as Lagrae BESS, would see the creation of the energy site – capable of generating up to 400MW of grid storage potential – on land at Glenmuckloch on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway.
Once operational, Lagrae BESS has the potential to generate 146GWhrs to the national grid which is enough to power and 54,000 homes.

A copy of the application, with a plan showing the land to which it relates, together with a copy of the documentation discussing the Company’s proposals in more detail and presenting an analysis of the environmental implications, are available for public inspection in person, free of charge, at:
