On the side of the countryside

Land resource is very different to other assets, as it is used by many people beyond its owner. The choices made at Buccleuch have far reaching implications on a local, community, national and global level. As stewards of almost 227,000 acres we go to great lengths to think about the long term consequences of our decisions and ensure we engage with all those who have legitimate interest in the land. We are actively engaged with the government, local authorities and other key stakeholders to ensure their input helps to shape the decisions we make.

There are three core elements at the heart of our decision-making process:

Economics
Community
Environment

As responsible stewards of the land, we must carefully consider the longterm impacts of all the choices we make, and look at how we may best generate economic benefit and reinvest this to the enhancement and sustainability of our wonderful resource and surround.
