FARMING & WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

Farming at Buccleuch has been one of the Groups core businesses for generations and today manages an in-hand farming operation extending to around 14,500 ha.  Buccleuch Farming  enterprises include: production of beef cattle for Buccleuch Foods; 2 dairy units  producing 3m litres of milk annually; a Freedom Foods accredited free range egg business and hill and low ground sheep rearing units.

Buccleuch Farming prides itself on its commitment to meeting exacting environmental and conservation standard; for example over the last 3 years they have planted or laid 3km of hedges annually.

Approximately 14% of our Estate land is currently farmed in-hand by Buccleuch Farming who currently employ 35 staff.

The range of enterprises and capital investment is wide, including dairy, cereals, oilseed rape, beans, sheep, beef and free range eggs - mixed farming in the true sense!
