Recycling Initiative Hitting The Target
BUCCLEUCH sporting has become the first Scottish game shooting operation to sign-up to a ground-breaking recycling effort.
Part of the Buccleuch Group, Buccleuch Sporting has teamed-up with Solway Recycling Limited, to recover spent cartridges and plastic feed bags.
And it is hoped the move will help pave the way forward for similar initiative among other UK estates and help safeguard the future of rural areas.
Buccleuch Sporting Manager Roy Green said: “At Buccleuch Estates we are very conscious that we are working in a wonderful natural environment and we want to help keep it that way.
With the help of Solway Recycling we can be sure that the plastic we use is suitably recycled.
“It is a simple step to take but one which is wholly effective”.
Using the Solway Bin and Liner system, Buccleuch staff will collect used cartridges throughout the season. The bins and full liners will then be collected at the end of the season.
The game feed bags will be recycled in the same manner and will be regenerated as garden furniture.
The brass parts of the cartridges will be melted down again and the plastic parts used for trial as underground cable covers.
Roy Hiddleston(corr) of Solway Recycling said the partnership with Buccleuch Sporting was one they were proud of.
He said: “We are happy to be working with Buccleuch Sporting. We will continue to work with the farming industry to recycle their waste products and have a collection network across the U.K.
“We are well placed to collect empty cartridge cases from shoots and make sure they are recycled”.
