Snooker Table For Sale At Offers Over £450,000
SNOOKER fans have been given the chance to pocket a rare collectors’ item - but they have to buy a house to get it.
The table on which Scottish snooker ace Steven Hendry clinched his first ever World Championship is being sold as part of the fixtures and fittings of a luxury Border’s home.
And the current owners, Ian and Betty Robson, hope the special snooker table will be snapped-up by a true fan.
The Borders’s biggest estate agency, Buccleuch John Sale is selling the unique home for offers over £450,000.
Harry Lukas from Buccleuch John Sale said the snooker table should prove and unusual draw to potential buyers.
He said: ““This is an unique property in a fine setting and with amazing space which is so rare today in modern houses, the snooker room has tremendous possibilities
“There can only ever be one table that Steven Hendry won his first world championship on and I expect it will raise a fair amount of interest.”
Mr Robson, a former miner and personnel manager, built the 5,000 square-foot house in the small town of Walkerburn three years ago.
Now the couple are down-sizing and have pledged to include the snooker table in the sale of their home to anyone who wants it.
Mr Robson said: “As a boy I used to dream of having a big house in the Borders overlooking the River Tweed with enough room for a championship table, so dreams really can come true.
“I used to play a lot of competitive snooker and there was a time when I considered going professional but knew I didn’t have the magic to make it in the big time.
“I used to play against Steven Hendry when he was working his way up the ranks as a boy so having the actual table he won the world championship on is fantastic.
“It’s time for us to move on now and if someone would like to buy the snooker table with the house, they are welcome to it.”
Hendry first won the World Professional Snooker Championship in 1990 at the age of 21, becoming the youngest player ever to win the event.
He went on to dominate the game in the 1990s and went on to earn more prize money than any other player (about £8 million).
The 12ft long table was made by BCE Westbury for the 1990 World Championships in Sheffield where Hendry beat Jimmy White 18 games to 12.
The steel framed table forms the centre piece of a downstairs entertainment area which also features a home cinema system, a bar, sauna and Jacuzzi room.
When Mr Robson built the four-bedroom home he reinforced the floor under the 1270kg snooker table.
The house also features three large living areas, four bathrooms- all ensuite, a huge outdoor veranda with views over the River Tweed, a kitchen and utility room.
