Michael Clarke - Retirement

Michael Clarke - Retirement

Michael Clarke Buccleuch Group Chief Executive retires today, 31st October.

After almost 20 years at the helm at Buccleuch, Michael Clarke is retiring and looking forward to being able to spend much more time managing his own farming enterprise.
Having lead the company through a period of significant change Michael leaves behind a diverse portfolio of property focused businesses active across the UK and overseas.

The Buccleuch Brand now encompasses a range of activity from commercial property and estate agency to food, tourism and leisure.

Michael has contributed much to position Buccleuch as a well regarded leader in all its fields of activity and has devoted energy and influence to up-skill the businesses to ensure that this position is sustainable.

A genuine champion of the countryside and keen conservationist Michael has made a significant contribution in building links between town and country and taking some strong rural messages to politicians.

With finely tuned people skills Michael lead Buccleuch to Investor in People recognition over 12 years ago – the first business in our sector to achieve this status and he has remained committed to growing its people along side the development of the businesses.

Michael’s retirement is well earned. His passion for Buccleuch is something that he brought to the workplace each and every day and that will be missed by friends and colleagues across the organisation and beyond.

With his wife Shirley, Michael will now have the time to bring some of that passion to his herd of Highland Cattle and Highland Ponies.

We all wish Michael and Shirley well.
