Managing the Environment - Corporate Responsibility

Increasingly businesses are being asked to demonstrate what they put back into society in addition to their normal day to day business activities. Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) has become the shorthand term for describing work with, for example, communities or environmental managment projects.

At Buccleuch CSR is at the very heart of what we do and our work in this area goes back generations. Managing the built and natural heritage, working with communities undertaking environmental and educational projects are all day to day activities for us.

We have a long history of community partnerships working on a diverse range of projects including: providing ground for playing fields and sports centres; creating starter craft business units; establishing a huge network of access routes managed by our ranger service; supporting local sports and arts groups; partnering local tourism initiatives.

The Buccleuch group also works closely with a number of not for profit organisations on environmental projects including red squirrel conservation with Red Alert; school tree projects with the Woodland Trust; and on other farm and wildlife conservation projects.

The Duke of Buccleuch and his family have been committed to countryside education for many years and have been very much industry leaders in this area. The Buccleuch special Estate Open Days for school have a national reputation for excellence.

We try in this section of our web site to give you a flavour of some of the projects with which we have been involved.
